Sound Barrier-breaking test pilot Chuck Yeager fished with Val and his life-partner, Victoria D'Angelo, again this winter for the 2002 20th Anniversary Cal-Ore Fish Enhancement Derby. Willie, of Willie Boats fame and invention, custom designed a drift boat for the fund-raising auction, that had a picture of the Bell X-1. Even though the boat had the sound-barrier breaking plane on the side it was still a leisurely trip down the river. Chuck signed the plane on the outside and then autographed the inside for the boat after landing the first steelhead landed in the boat (and for Chuck that day!) Thanks to Chuck the boat brought in a nice chunk of funds for the derby.
