Planning Your Oregon - California Fishing Experience

Fishing the Pacific coast of Oregon and northern California provides the avid king salmon and steelhead angler a lot of opportunities. Our base of operations is in Brookings, Oregon right in the heart of the most productive chinook salmon and steelhead fishing you can find.

Within a radius of 80 miles we have no less than five prime rivers to choose from. It's this variety that allows us to provide the best fishing opportunities for each of our guests. As one fishery cools down and another heats up, we will switch locations and even tactics to maximize the experience for each angler. And although we can fish a particular stream on request, it may not offer the best fishing at the moment so we like to capitalize on your flexibility to target the hottest fisheries.

Different fisheries require different techniques so we utilize power boats for some fishing trips and drift boats for others. Our power boats are comfortable and have a cover for protection from the rain and wind. Our drift boats have comfortable seats and are equipped with heaters to chase away the chill of the early morning.

Oregon Salmon & Steelhead Timing

What To Expect - What To Bring:

TRIP DURATION: We typically leave in the early morning and finish around mid-afternoon. You can bring whatever snacks, refreshments, and lunch you wish. Sack lunches are also available at a local restaurant. Most often we'll meet our clients for breakfast and then off to the river.

LICENSE & STAMP: Our fishing requires a current fishing license and a salmon/steelhead stamp. A One-Day nonresident license/stamp runs from $16.75 to $22.50 depending on which river and state we will fish. Multiple day licenses are also available.

WEATHER: Depending on the season temperatures may begin in the 30's and end in the 80's. Plan to dress in layers. Fishing necessitates rain gear and waterproof shoes; it also makes a good windbreaker if needed. Our boats are equipped with heaters but they are not designed to keep you "toasty warm" but rather to take the edge off!

WATER CONDITIONS: We fish both calm waters and whitewater. All precautions are taken to ensure the safety of our anglers. All guides are properly licensed and bonded as required by the state where fishing.

PERMITS:All permits, as required by state and federal law, will also be obtained. Through years of experience and our longevity in this profession we have obtained permits for several exclusive areas on the rivers we fish. These limited permits allow anglers an opportunity to fish all areas and not be restricted to the more crowded sections. In accordance with Federal law and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy, this institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (in education and training programs and activities), age, disability, or retaliation. (Not all prohibited bases apply to all programs).

GEAR: We provide all the necessary gear for catching fish. However if you wish to bring personal gear it will be welcome. Fly fishermen are encouraged to bring their own rods, waders and terminal tackle. Advice on flies will be provided in advance.
